Short answer: if flats keep parking your skid steer, solid tire and wheel assemblies are the fix. V2D is the general-purpose pick. ND is for stability under heavy loads. OD and O are smooth, for short runs on concrete. V1D is for compact machines. Each one is sized to replace a common pneumatic size and comes on a heavy duty reusable wheel.

If you run a skid steer in demolition, scrap, recycling, transfer stations or any job with sharp debris, you know what flats cost you. One nail or a piece of rebar and the machine sits until someone gets out there with a tire. Do that a few times a month and solid tires stop looking expensive.

We carry a full line of Sentry solid skid steer tire and wheel assemblies in V2D, ND, OD, O and V1D patterns. Here is how the sizing works, what each pattern is built for, and what to check before you switch.

Why solid skid steer tires come on wheels

Every solid skid steer assembly in this part of our catalog is sold as a tire and wheel. The product pages describe them as coming with heavy duty reusable wheels. That matters for two reasons:

1. Easy installation. You bolt the assembly on in place of your pneumatic tire and wheel. Nobody is mounting a solid tire in the field.

2. Reuse. The wheel is designed to be reused, which helps when it is time to replace the tire later.

Most listings are a single assembly. A full machine takes four.

How the sizing works

Solid skid steer tires use their own sizing. The key point: each product page tells you which pneumatic size it replaces. Based on our current listings:

Solid assembly sizeReplaces pneumatic size
30x10-1610x16.5
30x10-2010x16.5
32x10-2012x16.5
33x12-2012x16.5
36.5x12-2014x17.5

We also carry a 15-19.5 V2D solid skid steer tire listed as 38.5x14-20, and smaller 23x8.5-12 and 5.70x12 assemblies for compact machines.

If your skid steer runs 10x16.5 or 12x16.5 pneumatic tires today, you have more than one solid option. The 20 inch wheel sizes are physically different from the 16 inch versions. Check clearance on your machine. If you are not sure, talk to us before you order, not after.

V2D: aggressive tread with an extra row of deflectors

V2D is our most popular solid skid steer pattern. Examples include the 30x10-16 Sentry V2D, the 32x10-20 Sentry V2D, the 33x12-20 Sentry V2D, the 14-17.5 V2D (36.5x12-20) and the 23x8.5-12 V2D.

According to the product pages, the V2D has:

  • An aggressive tread pattern for maximum traction that helps keep excess material from getting caught between the treads.
  • An extra row of deflectors built in to maximize ride comfort and heat release.
  • A specially formulated compound that resists heat build-up.
  • Heavy duty reusable wheels.

V2D is our go-to recommendation for general construction, demolition and mixed ground.

ND: large aggressive block for stability

The ND pattern is from the Kolossus line. We carry the 30x10-16 Sentry ND and the 33x12-20 Sentry ND.

The product pages describe a large, aggressive block tread that significantly increases the footprint of your machine, integrated sidewall deflectors for a smoother ride and heat release, and a heat-resistant compound. If stability is your main concern, especially with heavy loads, look at ND. A stable machine is a safer machine.

OD and O: smooth for the longest wear

OD and O are smooth treads. We carry the 30x10-20 Sentry OD, the 33x12-20 Sentry OD and the 34x12-20 Sentry O.

The product pages say the smooth design gives the longest tire wear in short-distance applications. The OD adds integrated side wall deflectors for ride comfort and heat release. The O is described with a solid sidewall design for maximum durability.

Smooth treads belong on hard, flat surfaces. Concrete floors at a transfer station, a recycling yard or a warehouse, where the machine does short, repeated runs. Do not put them on loose or muddy ground.

V1D: compact machines

For smaller machines we carry the 5.70x12 Sentry V1D, plus a non-marking version. The product pages describe an aggressive tread, integrated side wall deflectors, and heavy duty reusable wheels.

Non-marking options

If your skid steer goes indoors on finished floors, we also carry the 10-16.5 V2D Nonmarking Solid Tire and Wheel (30x10-16) and the V1D non-marking assembly above.

Picking a pattern

  • Mixed ground, demolition, general construction: V2D.
  • Heavy loads where stability matters most: ND.
  • Smooth concrete with short runs: OD or O.
  • Compact machines: V1D or the 23x8.5-12 V2D.
  • Indoor finished floors: a non-marking assembly.

What changes after the switch

Solid tires change how a skid steer feels. Our FAQ lists the main benefits of solid tires as increased machine stability, no downtime due to flats, and increased carrying capacity. It also notes that solid tires generally last 2 to 4 times longer than pneumatic tires. High heat, rough surfaces and long carry distances are examples of things that can reduce that life.

The deflectors on V2D, ND and OD are there for ride comfort and heat release. We covered deflectors in a separate post. The short version: they are a big reason solid skid steer tires ride better than people expect. Tell your operators that before the first shift, so they know what to expect.

Before you order

1. Confirm your current pneumatic size, such as 10x16.5 or 12x16.5.

2. Confirm your bolt pattern and hub. The assembly has to bolt to your machine.

3. Check clearance if you are moving to a 20 inch wheel size.

4. Order the full set. Four matching assemblies keep the machine level and tracking straight. Do not mix solid and pneumatic on the same machine.

Where solid skid steer tires earn their keep

The operations that get the most out of solid skid steer tires usually look like one of these:

  • Demolition contractors. Exposed rebar, broken glass, nails and screws everywhere. A pneumatic tire does not stand much of a chance.
  • Scrap and recycling yards. Sharp metal on the ground all day. Flats are not a question of if, but when.
  • Transfer stations and waste handling. Machines pushing material on concrete floors, often for long shifts.
  • Foundries and steel mills. Hot, harsh environments where downtime is expensive. Our FAQ notes that high heat can reduce solid tire life, so pattern and deflector choice matter even more here.
  • Rental fleets. A machine on solid tires comes back from a rental without a flat and is ready for the next customer.

If your operation looks like any of these, the math usually works out fast. Fewer service calls. Fewer machines parked waiting on a tire. Fewer operators standing around.

FAQ

Do solid skid steer tires come with wheels?
